In this 100-page book, El addresses in his unique way the relative scarcity of arrangements of the great Celtic music for classical string trio -- violin, viola and cello. "Celtic Treasures for String Trio" reflects El's unerring musical taste and acclaimed arranging expertise, brought to bear on seven of the most powerful pieces in all of Irish and Scottish music.
The music ranges from the three of the greatest Irish jigs --multi-sectioned, and, in certain cases, with oscillations in keys and moods--to two of the richest compositions of Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738), the legendary bard of the Irish harp. Those compositions include the powerful Farewell to Music, composed by Carolan in contemplation of his own death.
Keys for the pieces have been chosen to make the music accessible to the players, and also to allow for the grouping of certain pieces in medleys -- for example, Hector the Hero and The Humors of Ballyloughlin Jig, as well as The Mist-Covered Mountains of Home and The Kid on the Mountain Jig.
